About the university
Jubba university of Somalia was initially a small institute named Ibnu-Sina Institute of Health Science on 5th February, 2009 which became the first private institute that provided one year associate with higher diploma for science subjects. During the first year, the institute offered two years diploma in nursing which became, at the same time, the first higher institute that provides nursing in the region. In 7th August, 2010, the Institute took the name (JUBBA UNIVERSITY OF SOMALIA), and opened the faculty of health science, the two years nursing programs were changed into four years? bachelor degree, and enrolled the first batch of the university. For nearly a decade, there was no higher educational institution that would produce qualified nurses and laboratory technician professionals. A large number of qualified Somali educators and professionals have either became the victims of the civil war or fled from the country in search of better livelihood and security. In response to this need, a group of Somali educators, after analyzing of the situation, has decided to open this university. In this regard, they have established (JUBBA UNIVERSITY OF SOMALIA) in August 2010. Jubba University of Somalia sees teamwork on every college program as the key success element and is responsible for creating this environment. With its short time, JUSSOM has established several student groups and centers, which provide opportunities for research and applied learning.
