About the university
It was in 1979 when a group of academics and visionary Salvadoran businessmen met to found the Technological Institute of Commerce and Business Administration (Itcae), whose foundations would consolidate the existence of what is today Utec. The founders of Itcae were Juan Jose Olivo Pe?ate, Edgardo Emilio Zepeda, Jose Mauricio Loucel, Rufino Garay H. and Jose Adolfo Araujo Romagoza. Utec, after two years of hard work, began its academic work on June 12, 1981, with a population of 1,279 students, in the Chah?n building, located on Ruben Dar?o street in San Salvador. It began its activities with three faculties: Economic Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, and Sciences and Humanities. The first rector was Juan Jose Olivo Pe?ate. Edgardo Emilio Zepeda and Rufino Garay H later held the position. From 1992 to August 2012, Jose Mauricio Loucel held the position, who today is the Founding President and Honorary Rector for Life of the Technological University of El Salvador, granted in recognition of the extensive development that he gave during his rectorship to this house of studies. As of September 2012, Nelson Zarate Sanchez has been the rector to date.
